Kat was born to a moderately wealthy family in California. Her mother, however, was never mentally or physically stable, and by the time Kat was twelve, her mother, Marianne, had fallen into a deep depression—riddled with schizophrenic and bipolar tendencies along with Huntington’s, which Kat is also predisposed genetically to have. Along with the mental disorders and all.
Her father, Rudolph, wasn’t exactly the nicest of men. When her mother passed away, he sort of…closed himself off. His company went exclusively private, dealing with the mafia and other less-savory characters. He was fringing on eccentric before, but dipped into madness after losing Marianne—and her sizable fortune, which she had secretly willed to Kat.
As a result, Rudolph forced his daughter into a sort of…servitude-marriage with him, not unlike the Greco-Roman or Egyptian families of power from the olden days. Kat of course resisted and rebelled, and, well. Not-nice things happened to her until she was able to slip away at age twenty.
